Privacy Policy

Draft for review before publication.
Your reading, writing and participation matter to us. This policy explains the information involved when you use The Parlor and the choices available to you.
1. Who this policy covers
This policy describes personal information used in connection with The Parlor magazine, website, member portal, community, events, newsletters and shop. For privacy questions or requests, contact lindsey@theparlormagazine.com.
2. Information involved
The information involved depends on how you use The Parlor:
- Accounts and profiles: email address, authentication information, name, profile photo, banner, headline, biography and any contact or mailing details you supply. If you sign in with Google, account information may be supplied by that provider.
- Membership and purchases: membership plan, subscription and billing status, payment-provider identifiers, order contents, shipping information and correspondence about purchases. Stripe processes payment details; the application uses payment identifiers and order records rather than storing full card numbers.
- Community participation: posts, comments, uploaded media, forum membership and roles, messages, reports, event registrations and waitlist status. Article submissions can also contain bylines, author biographies, sources, editorial feedback and contribution-consent records.
- Preferences: newsletter settings, saved shopping items, cart contents, notification status and guided-tour progress.
- Website activity: pages visited, referral information, device category, timestamps, visitor/session identifiers and approximate country. Network providers may also process IP addresses and technical request information.
3. How information is used
Information supports account access, membership benefits, editorial review, community features, event administration, order fulfillment, customer support and essential service communications. Website activity helps understand readership and operate the site. Account and activity records can also support security, moderation, fraud prevention and legal obligations.
Where applicable law requires a legal basis, processing must rely on an appropriate basis such as performing an agreement, complying with legal obligations, legitimate interests balanced against your rights, or consent where required. Contact us for information about a particular use.
4. Profiles, contributions and private spaces
Your profile information and community contributions may be visible to other members or, for published articles and other public content, to the public. Forum and event visibility depends on the feature and its access settings. Registering for a public event does not by itself grant membership of a private hosting forum.
Moderators, editors and authorized administrators may need access to relevant information to operate features, review submissions, investigate reports or provide support. Do not put confidential information or someone else’s personal information into a post or submission without an appropriate reason and permission.
Removing an account or community post does not necessarily remove a separately published article from the magazine or archive. Editorial permissions, applicable law and any relevant removal request must also be considered.
5. Services and other recipients
Service providers process information needed for their roles. Depending on the feature, these include Supabase for authentication, database and file storage; Google for optional sign-in; Stripe and supported payment services for payments; Resend for email; Cloudinary for media; and Printify, Shippo and delivery partners for physical goods and shipping.
Hosting and network services, external media, fonts, embedded content and approximate-location services can receive technical information when your browser contacts them. The site references services including Netlify, Wix-hosted images, Google/Adobe fonts, video or social embeds, and ipapi.co for country lookup. These services may have their own privacy policies.
Information may also need to be disclosed to meet lawful requirements, protect rights or safety, investigate misuse, or carry out a business transition subject to applicable safeguards. A separate provider’s payment, sign-in or embedded-content service is also governed by its own terms.
6. Cookies and browser storage
The site uses cookies or browser storage for sign-in sessions, cart and wishlist contents, preferences and tour progress. It also uses visitor/session identifiers and country caching for audience analytics and personalization such as currency display.
You can manage cookies and local storage in your browser. Blocking or clearing them can sign you out, reset preferences or remove locally saved shopping items. Some information is also saved to your member account, so clearing browser storage does not erase account records. Embedded services may use their own storage.
7. Email choices
Membership signup includes newsletter information as explained on the signup screen. You can unsubscribe from newsletters using the available unsubscribe link or account settings without giving up membership. Account, security, purchase, event and other service messages may still be needed for services you use. Contact lindsey@theparlormagazine.com if a preference is not working as expected.
8. Retention, location and security
Retention depends on the purpose of a record: maintaining an account, fulfilling an order, documenting payment or consent, resolving disputes, moderating content, maintaining editorial archives or meeting legal obligations. Backup and provider records may follow separate retention processes. Contact us about the retention or removal of a particular record.
Service providers can process information in countries other than your own. Where transfer safeguards are legally required, they need to be appropriate to the processing involved. No website or transmission method can promise absolute security; protect your password and report suspected account misuse promptly.
9. Your requests and rights
Depending on applicable law and your location, you may have rights to access, correct, delete or receive a copy of personal information, restrict or object to certain processing, withdraw consent, or raise a complaint with a relevant privacy regulator. Some records may need to be retained for legal, security or editorial reasons.
Use account settings for available profile and preference controls, or send a request to lindsey@theparlormagazine.com. We may need information to verify that a request relates to your account. Please do not send passwords, full payment-card details or unnecessary sensitive information.
10. Children and sensitive information
The Parlor is not designed as a service for children. If you believe a child’s personal information has been supplied inappropriately, contact us. Posts may concern sensitive subjects; share only what you are comfortable making available to the relevant audience, and respect the privacy of people you mention.
11. Changes and contact
Updates to this policy will be reflected in the date above. Additional notice or consent will be sought where required by law. Questions about this policy can be sent to lindsey@theparlormagazine.com. See also our Terms of Use.
